SUKKUR: At least nine officials of the Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, have been suspended by the varsity registrar over the fake degree-issuance scandal.

The suspended officials include examination controller while the pension and other benefits of two retired controllers of examination have been withheld over the scandal.

It is pertinent to mention here that on April 12 the varsity’s 92nd Syndicate meeting extensively discussed the matter and sought a report from a fact-finding team headed by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abdul Wahid Jatoi, along with Dr Ameer Ahmed, Dr Muzaffar Sarohi, Dr Menho Khan Leghari, Prof Dr Akhtiar Ghumro and Dean Faculty of Law Abdul Rehman Bhatti.

Subsequently, the fact-finding committee compiled a report, naming the suspended officials for their alleged involvement in the issuance of fake degrees.

The committee also proposed action against a book binder and two other employees, including a tabulator.

The individuals who obtained such degrees belonged to Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan, and the fraudulent degrees included LLB, LLM, BA, BSc, BCom and other postgraduate certificates issued between 1994 and 2024.

However, the Federal Investigation Agency and other authorities concerned are also investigating the matter.
