RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has formally called for the immediate release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi on grounds of deteriorating health conditions.

Speaking to the media near Adiala Jail here on Tuesday Gohar emphasised that the party has intensified efforts to secure their release, particularly highlighting the medical urgency surrounding Bushra Bibi.

Addressing the broader political and diplomatic landscape, the Chairman noted that while PTI welcomes international diplomatic successes, true national stability cannot be achieved without internal cohesion. He suggested that external mediation and global progress are only sustainable if the government works to reduce domestic tensions rather than allowing them to develop into lasting hostility. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to national security and the total eradication of terrorism.

He further addressed recent friction involving the PTI founder’s family, specifically urging party members to maintain respect and refrain from using harsh language regarding Aleema Khan and other family members, noting that they do not harbour political ambitions but are naturally concerned for Imran Khan’s welfare.

Gohar also raised serious legal concerns regarding the treatment of the PTI founder, alleging that despite High Court orders permitting weekly visits, meetings with Imran Khan have been systematically blocked since mid-October. He characterised this denial of access to a major political leader as a severe breach of democratic norms and a violation of basic human rights.

While expressing a degree of satisfaction that Bushra Bibi was permitted to meet her family following recent surgery, he urged authorities to ensure her continued recovery in a specialised hospital facility rather than returning her prematurely to prison. He stressed that family and legal counsel access must be restored immediately to ensure the well-being of the incarcerated leadership.
