LAHORE:Several police officials, including the SHO of Defence A, have been suspended after a detainee was allegedly subjected to torture.
The action was taken after video footage and images of the incident surfaced, prompting DIG Operations Faisal Kamran to take notice.According to a police spokesperson, the SHO Defence A and other officials concerned were suspended and directed to report to the lines, while a show-cause notice was issued to the relevant SDPO.
The DIG Operations has assigned SP Cantt that a transparent investigation be carried out to determine responsibility and submit a final report within 24 hours.Meanwhile, DIG Investigations ordered an inquiry into the alleged torture of a citizen in the Ghalib Market area, following media reports about the incident.
According to police, DIG Investigation Lahore Syed Zeeshan Raza took notice of the incident and directed SP Investigation Model Town Shahid Nawaz Warraich to complete an inquiry within seven days and submit a report. To ensure transparency and merit, the incharge investigation of Ghalib Market, Sonia Naheed, has been closed to headquarters.
Meanwhile, an ASI, a head constable and a constable — identified as Arshad, Rehan and Shehbaz — were suspended and also directed to report to headquarters.Some pictures had gone viral in which the victims could be seen brutally tortured by police officials.
Four arrested over murder attempt
Police have arrested four suspects for allegedly attempting to kill two men after a dispute stemming from a children’s quarrel escalated into violence in Nishtar Colony.The incident was reported through an emergency helpline call, prompting action by Nishtar Colony police.
Officials said the conflict began three days earlier when children got into a fight while playing in the street, which later led to tensions between their families. The situation turned violent when one group allegedly attacked the rival party’s house late at night with knives and sticks.
As a result, two brothers — identified as Parvez and Javed — sustained injuries. One was wounded by a knife, while the other suffered a head injury after being struck with a stick. Both were shifted to a hospital. Police said four suspects — Akbar, Faiz, Hanif and Adnan — were arrested, and a case was registered against them.
Two brothers held in murder case
Investigation police have arrested two real brothers allegedly involved in the murder of a young man in the Defence C area. The victim, identified as Sialti Lal, was stabbed to death a few days ago following a dispute over dumping garbage on a plot.
