Rawalpindi:All public sector hospitals in Rawalpindi district including the three teaching hospitals in town have been put on high alert to deal with any untoward situation from Thursday evening to Sunday morning.

According to the directives issued by the city district government, the hospital staff including doctors have not been allowed to avail offs from Thursday evening to Sunday morning while all the departments including outpatient department would operate as per routine on Friday and Saturday.

The three teaching hospitals including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital have been directed to remain vigilant to face any untoward incident, said Medical Superintendent at Benazir Bhutto Hospital Dr. Sharjeel Sarfraz while talking to ‘The News’ on Thursday.

He added that after receiving orders on Thursday afternoon, he has directed all the departments of the hospital to remain on high alert till Sunday morning. The hospital has already made special arrangements to strengthen all departments of the hospital, he said.

To a query, he said that despite a local holiday in the district on Thursday, the BBH has received as many as 2673 patients at its OPD. The OPDs of the allied hospitals would serve patients as per routine on Friday and Saturday, he added.

All departments of Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital are fully functional and there shall be no closure of any of the hospital’s department on Friday and Saturday, said Medical Superintendent at RTH Dr. Ikram Ullah Niazi while talking to ‘The News’ on Thursday.

Though the reason for putting the teaching hospitals on high alert from Thursday to Sunday morning has not been mentioned in the order, it is apparently because of talks being hosted by Islamabad between the top officials from the United States and Iran to ease tensions in the Middle East.
