Rawalpindi: District Health Authority Rawalpindi that launched Community Health Inspector (CHI) Program in the district on January 26 this year has yet to fill the posts of around 900 CHIs for the district.
Charge nurses, lady health visitors, midwives and community midwives having qualifications certified by Pakistan Nursing Council can apply for the posts within this week. The successful candidates to be inducted as CHIs would be given a fixed salary amounting to Rs50000 per month, said Chief Executive Officer Health and Population Rawalpindi Dr Ehsan Ghani while talking to ‘The News’.
He added that the DHA would have to induct a total of 1240 CHIs to monitor service delivery at the grassroots level, support immunization, maternal and child health, nutrition, family planning, and disease prevention activities. So far, the DHA has placed around 400 CHIs in the field, he said.
It is important that under the Maryam Nawaz Community Health Services in Punjab, the Community Health Inspector Program has been launched in the province with a focus on strengthening preventive healthcare, improving community level surveillance, ensuring accountability, and bridging gaps between health facilities and communities.
Dr. Ghani said that the posts of CHIs have been advertised and it has been mentioned in the advertisement that the successful candidates would be deployed in the area/union council located near to their residence. Interested persons below 43 years of age can apply for the post of CHI, he added.
As of April 11, 2026, the Rawalpindi District Health Registration initiative has successfully registered over 1.75 million individuals, achieving 61.6 per cent of its target population, the population to be given health cover, said District Focal Person for Media Dr. Waqar Ahmed while talking to ‘The News’ on Monday.
He added that tehsils like Kahuta and Murree are leading with nearly 90 per cent coverage, densely populated urban areas such as Rawal Town and Cantt remain critical priorities with progress trailing below 27 per cent.
To bridge the remaining gap of 1.09 million people, the district has launched an intensive 8-day completion sprint from April 12 to April 19, focusing administrative efforts on low-activity zones and deploying additional human resources to ensure every household is accounted for in the provincial health database, said Dr. Waqar.
He explained that the target population has been set as 2854000 of which as many as 1756922 individuals have been registered while 1097078 persons are yet to be registered to give health cover at their doorsteps.
