Islamabad: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police conducted a major crackdown on an illegal gambling den operating under the cover of cock and quail fights on Kahuta Road, arresting eight accused.
An official told APP on Monday that the operation was carried out by Sihala Police on the special directions of SSP Operations and SP Sohan. SHO Sihala Sub-Inspector Aoun Abbas, along with his team including Sub-Inspector Ashfaq Shah, conducted a raid on a tip-off where several individuals were found involved in betting on animal fights.
The official said eight accused were arrested on the spot, while cash amounting to Rs230,000 used in gambling was also recovered. He said other relevant items were taken into custody as evidence for further legal proceedings. The official said that cases had been registered against the accused under sections 6 and 7 of the Gambling Act 1978.
He added that an illegal weapon was also recovered from one of the accused, and a separate case had been registered against him under Arms Ordinance. The official added that more arrests were expected as investigations progressed to trace other individuals involved in the network.
