CHITRAL: The residents of Chitral city are facing severe difficulties due to the deteriorating condition of the Abdul Wali Khan Bypass Road.
The road is considered the city’s only major artery, serving the entire burden of traffic but due to lack of proper maintenance over the past 14 to 15 years, it is now in dilapidated condition.
According to local sources, shopkeepers in Chitral carried out temporary repairs on a self-help basis last year, but those efforts did not last long and the road was once again in shambles.
The residents said that during the previous government’s tenure, millions were allocated under beautification projects, yet this crucial road was neglected. They complained that large potholes across the road were not only damaging vehicles but also creating serious difficulties for pedestrians.
During rainfall, these potholes filled with water and passing vehicles splash dirty water into pedestrians, causing inconvenience and distress to them.
