Lesco claims saving Rs138bn in one year

LAHORE:The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has improved efficiency and service delivery during last one year, said Aamir Zia, Chairman, Board of Directors of power utility.

These achievements are the result of teamwork, transparency, and effective use of modern technology, he said while addressing a press conference here at Lahore Press Club on Tuesday.

Aamir Zia added that Lesco would continue its efforts to eliminate power theft, improve the system and provide excellent services to consumers, in line with the govt’s power sector reform policy.

During the press conference, Lesco management announced its performance report from April 2025 to March 2026, highlighting significant achievements under the leadership of CEO Engineer M Ramzan Butt.

The report revealed that Lesco has achieved a total financial saving of over Rs138 billion, attributed to reduced line losses, improved recovery, and procurement reforms. The transmission and distribution losses decreased from 16.80% to 12.40%, while billing recovery has reached 101.40%, resulting in savings of Rs63 billion.

Lesco has taken strict action against power theft, identifying over 174,000 cases, registering 51,995 FIRs, and detecting 263 million units of stolen electricity, with detection bills amounting to Rs14.2 billion.

To enhance customer convenience, Lesco has established 10 modern customer care centres and improved its complaint management system through 118 helpline, SMS 8118, and mobile app. The complaint resolution rate has improved significantly from 66% to 98.9%.

Additionally, Lesco has implemented CCMS and E-OPS systems in all 201 subdivisions and converted 2,032 industrial meters to AMI smart meters, reducing prices by 32-47%.The report highlighted Lesco's efforts to improve governance and digital transformation, including the launch of data centre, GIS mapping, ERP system, and smart grid pilot projects. Four new grid stations were added to enhance load management and system performance.

Lesco officials said that Lesco is also undertaking a beautification campaign to organise overhead wires and replace dilapidated poles, ensuring a safe and beautiful environment for citizens.
