Islamabad:The Islamabad Police successfully dismantled an inter-provincial dacoit ring on Friday, apprehending five gang members following two separate armed encounters in the Tarnol and Sabzi Mandi areas.

The series of events began in Tarnol when police officers, conducting routine security checks, signaled four suspicious individuals on two motorcycles to stop. Rather than complying, the suspects opened indiscriminate fire on the officials. A similar confrontation unfolded in the Sabzi Mandi jurisdiction, where a police raid based on credible intelligence was met with immediate gunfire from criminal elements.

No police personnel were harmed, a result the department credited to the strict use of precautionary measures and bulletproof vests. Three suspects in Tarnol and one in Sabzi Mandi sustained gunshot wounds, which authorities believe were caused by the reckless firing of their own accomplices as they attempted to flee under the cover of darkness.

A fifth suspect was overpowered and taken into custody unhurt while trying to escape the scene. A police spokesperson confirmed that the arrested individuals are hardened criminals with extensive records, collectively linked to dozens of robberies, dacoities, and other serious offenses across Islamabad and Punjab.

During preliminary interrogations, the suspects apprehended in Tarnol confessed to a string of armed robberies carried out during the Eidul Fitr holidays.
