ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday restrained private medical colleges from charging annual fees exceeding Rs1.8 million.

The order was issued by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir while hearing a petition filed by a second-year MBBS student, Yemni Yasir, against a private institution (Riphah Medical College).

According to the petitioner s counsel, Advocate Shafqat Abbas Tarar, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) had already directed that private medical colleges must not charge more than Rs1.8 million per year.

However, the college administration allegedly issued a fee challan of Rs2.4 million instead of the approved amount.

The petitioner also informed the court that despite submitting a formal request to the college administration, no action was taken.

Upon hearing the case, the court directed the college administration to refrain from collecting fees beyond the prescribed limit until the next hearing. Notices have been issued to the federal government, PMDC, and the college administration, seeking their responses. The hearing has been adjourned until a later date.
