ISLAMABAD: A contempt petition has been filed before the Islamabad High Court against the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for allegedly violating a court order restraining the authority from cutting trees in the federal capital.

The petition stems from ongoing proceedings in a writ case filed on January 15, 2026, in which the court had directed the CDA to refrain from cutting trees in Islamabad until further orders. The case relates to concerns over large-scale tree removal in environmentally sensitive areas, including Shakarparian, and seeks enforcement of citizens’ right to a clean and healthy environment. The case is expected to be taken up by the court in the coming days, amid growing concern among environmental groups and citizens over the protection of Islamabad’s green spaces and adherence to judicial orders.
