ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Thursday said that the National Assembly Secretariat was planning to save up to Rs2 billion through austerity initiatives in light of the prevailing regional tensions.
The Speaker met with Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, and Member National Assembly Syed Naveed Qamar. Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah was also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the prime minister’s austerity measures.
The participants also deliberated on making the legislative process in the National Assembly and its Standing Committees more effective and result-oriented.
National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq informed that, as part of fuel and energy conservation efforts, 75 percent of official vehicles have been grounded.
He further stated that the Secretariat is fulfilling its electricity requirements through the Green Parliament solar system.
Highlighting additional efficiency measures, the Speaker noted that only 200 employees of the National Assembly Secretariat are physically performing duties during Assembly sessions.
The participants appreciated the austerity measures undertaken by the National Assembly Secretariat. Various proposals were also considered to further strengthen the legislative process and enhance the role and performance of Standing Committees.
