MANSEHRA: A group of people in Torghar on Wednesday staged a protest to demand the reopening of roads blocked by landslides following recent rainfall across the district.

“Several roads that were blocked due to landslides have not yet been cleared by the government, creating difficulties in shifting patients, particularly women, to health facilities,” Maulana Ruhul Amin told the protesters.

The Patawan-Madakhel Road, Zaizari-Shangaldar Road, and Judbah-Schan Pakband Road, along with other arteries in different parts of Torghar district, remain blocked and have yet to be cleared by the Communication and Works Department.

People from various localities gathered at one of the blocked roads and raised slogans against the government. They said that residents of Torghar had been deprived of development and prosperity even after the area was granted the status of a settled district in 2011, having previously been part of the tribal belt of Mansehra.

“Many people from our district are working in Karachi, and those scheduled to return home are unable to travel due to the blocked roads. They are also not being refunded for the tickets they had purchased,” he said. Maulana Ruhul Amin urged the district administration and local lawmakers to take immediate action to clear the roads.
