MANSEHRA: Residents of Dasu, including clerics, local government representatives, and traders, have demanded that the district administration of Upper Kohistan take strict legal action against a group of miscreants allegedly creating hurdles in the smooth execution of development projects in the area.

“Our area lacks adequate health, education, roads, and other infrastructure, and women often die on the way to hospitals. However, a handful of people are creating hurdles to the execution of development projects in remote parts of Dasu,” a cleric, Maulana Noor Nabi, told a grand meeting attended, among others, by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Azhar Khan and District Police Officer Tahir Iqbal in Dasu on Wednesday.

A number of people gathered at the Assistant Commissioner’s office and warned of street protests if the government failed to arrest what they described as a handful of miscreants from Jalkot who had threatened and attacked contractors working on roads, schools, health facilities, and other infrastructure projects.

“We have already approached the police department seeking a crackdown against these miscreants, but no action has been taken so far,” another cleric, Maulana Attaur Rehman, said.He said that children were deprived of primary education as the construction of school buildings had also been halted due to threats to contractors’ lives.

The deputy commissioner and DPO assured the participants, who had gathered from different parts of Dasu tehsil, that the law would take its course to ensure the execution of development projects in the area.
