LAHORE:The Punjab government Wednesday approved a comprehensive 23 small industrial estates upgradation plan across Punjab with the estimated cost of Rs2.7 billion which focused on providing missing infrastructure and essential industrial facilities, including utilities and access improvements.
In a move to support traditional industries, the board also approved the upgradation of handicraft shops and the establishment of a dedicated handicrafts bazaar in the provincial capital. Two new schemes are also being introduced to promote artisanship, under which craftsmen will be eligible for interest-free loans of up to Rs500,000.
The meeting further decided to establish an evaluation and monitoring unit at PSIC headquarters to strengthen oversight mechanisms. A topographic survey of all small industrial estates across Punjab will also be conducted to support future planning and development.
The decisions were made in the 134th meeting of the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) Board of Director held at PSIC House under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain.
The meeting also reviewed a 12-point agenda and focused on boosting the efficiency of small industrial estates, ensuring full colonisation of existing zones and addressing long-standing regulatory and administrative gaps. Among the key decisions, the board approved the proposed PSIC Estate Development, Management and Non-Transferable Property Rules 2026. The framework is expected to bring greater legal clarity and governance to industrial estates, though final approval will be sought from the provincial cabinet.
The board sanctioned the formation of Boards of Management for small industrial estates in Khanewal, Mian Channu and Sahiwal. The step is aimed at improving on-ground governance and ensuring closer coordination with local stakeholders.
The government also approved a needs assessment study for establishing new small industrial estates in Okara, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Hafizabad and Pakpattan. The study will help identify demand, infrastructure gaps and investment potential before launching new zones.The board also approved the hiring of a contractor to initiate civil works for the Quaidabad Small Industrial Estate, signalling progress on previously delayed projects.
