LAHORE:On the instructions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, it has been decided to expand the scope of sanitation operations in City. Railway lines and selected cantonment areas are also being included in the Suthra (Clean) Punjab Programme.
In this regard, a review meeting was held at the Town Hall with Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique, in chair. The chief minister’s adviser on Political Affairs Zeeshan Malik, Special Assistant Shoaib Mirza, Deputy Commissioner/Administrator Metropolitan Corporation Lahore Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz, Suthra Punjab Authority DG Babar Sahib Din and all Assistant Commissioners also attended the meeting.
Preliminary steps were also considered in the context of increasing the number of union councils under the new local government system.Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique, while emphasising the need to dump the garbage of large private housing schemes, directed that private housing schemes should be provided services with charging of fee. He said that there are 13,000 beats in Lahore under LWMC.
‘Under Suthra Punjab, 10,500 feet of streets and roads are being cleaned in Lahore city’, he observed. He directed the DC to identify government land for developing temporary dumping points saying that setting up temporary dumping points near every area will improve the results and save resources.
The minister said that biogas plants will be set up to use the dung produced in gowala colonies. ‘The pilot project in this regard is successfully producing results. The milkmen have also shown their willingness to pay a fee per cattle, which is a welcome thing’, he added. He appealed to the citizens to avoid throwing garbage on vacant plots instead they should register their complaints on the helpline.
Zeeshan Rafique said that the CM’s ‘Suthra Punjab’ has become an authentic brand internationally. ‘The network is constantly active to keep every area of Punjab, including Lahore, clean’, noted he.
The meeting decided to provide additional funds to further improve the performance of town managers.Adviser to the Chief Minister Zeeshan Malik said that the CM provided all possible resources for a clean Punjab. ‘The monitoring mechanism of field supervisors is being made effective’, he vowed. SACM Shoaib Mirza directed that all ACs should make continuous visits for spot checking. ‘No leniency should be given to absenteeism’, he warned.
