ISLAMABAD: In an unusual development at the District and Sessions Courts Islamabad, the Federal Police submitted a new challan in the Azadi March case despite the acquittal of PTI founder Imran Khan in the same matter.
Judicial Magistrate Shahzad Khan heard the case on Tuesday. Lawyers Sardar Masroof and Zahid Bashir Dar, appearing on behalf of the PTI founder, argued that it was unprecedented for a challan to be filed again after the accused had already been acquitted. They informed the court that the PTI founder had been acquitted in the same case in 2024, yet a fresh challan was submitted in 2025.
Judge Shahzad Khan directed the defence to present the previous acquittal order before the court. The lawyers submitted the order and after reviewing the record, the court registered the case with the new challan in the office.
The case against the PTI founder was originally registered at Tarnol police station in connection with the Azadi March.
