DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least five people were killed and four others injured in a firing incident at Chari Bohar area of Paroa Tehsil of the Dera Ismail Khan district on Tuesday, officials said.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred after allegations related to motorcycle snatching.
It was learnt that a delegation of local elders visited the house of the suspected accused to address the issue.
However, after a minor exchange of words, the suspect allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on the visitors. As a result, nine people sustained injuries.
Among the injured, two persons, Muhammad Ramzan, son of Ghulam Shabbir, a resident of Chari Bohar, and Matiullah, son of Sanaullah, belonging to the Astarana community of Kadi Shamozai, succumbed to injuries.
Reports suggested that among the deceased was Altaf Khan Astarana, brother of Sherbat Khan, an active worker of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
The names of the remaining victims could not be ascertained immediately.
The accused fled the scene after committing the crime.
The bodies of the deceased and injured were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Paroa and District Headquarters Hospital Dera Ismail Khan.
Police called for reinforcements, including an Armoured Personnel Carrier, from Shaheed Aijaz Police Lines to keep the situation under control in the locality.
