The South Zone police detained six leaders of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Muhaz (Bashir Qureshi group) outside the Karachi Press Club.
Police said the Section 144 was enforced in the Red Zone and security was on high alert due to the prevailing situation. Authorities had received information that the group was planning to hold a gathering, raising concerns about a possible disturbance to law and order.
As a precaution, heavy security arrangements were made outside the press club, and police detained six leaders of the JSQM-B group upon their arrival and shifted them to a nearby police station.
The detained individuals were identified as Dr Niaz Kalani, Ghulam Murtaza, Chakar Khan, Kashifullah Bachayo, Asif Baladi, and Pehnal Sario. Police said further action regarding the detainees would be taken in accordance with the law.
A spokesperson for the JSQM-B group stated that nationalist leader Asif Baladi was scheduled to announce his joining of the party at the Karachi Press Club. However, police cordoned off the area and detained all leaders before they could enter the premises. The spokesperson condemned the detentions, calling them an act against democratic norms. Later, a spokesperson for the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz-B said all the leaders taken into custody by police had been released.
