At least three people have been injured after a powerful explosion at a marriage hall near Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi that was caused by gas accumulation in a sewerage line.
The incident occurred within the limits of the Sir Syed police station in Sector 11-A, where gas build-up in the sewerage line triggered a loud blast at the Ayesha Marriage Hall. The explosion was heard from a considerable distance, and caused a fire to erupt in the sofas placed inside the hall. The impact also shattered the chandeliers and ceiling lights. Rescue teams transported the injured to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.
Police and Rangers officials also reached the scene, while the Crime Scene Unit was called to collect evidence. SHO Farukh Hashmi said the explosion took place near a wash basin inside the hall, damaging two wash basins and their mirrors.
