MANSEHRA: A traditional folk music event organised to celebrate Eid festivities at one of Torghar’s hujras attracted tribesmen from parts of the district.
“Such festivities have been part of our Pashtun culture and traditions for centuries, where folk singers and players of ancient instruments captivate audiences with soothing music,” Zahid Khan, a member of the indigenous community in Judbah, the district headquarters of Torghar, told reporters on Sunday.
The music event was organised to mark Eidul Fitr and to keep alive centuries-old traditions, where folk singers and players of rubab, harmonium, and drums (tabla) mesmerised the audience, particularly youngsters who had gathered from various localities. The singers performed famous Pashto folk songs, thrilling youngsters who danced to the traditional beats.
They also paid rich tribute to the heroes of Pashtun culture through folk songs, performed rhythmically with the ancient music instruments. The rubab, harmonium, and tabla players also stole the show with solo and orchestrated performances, energising youngsters to dance.
“Such music events are a permanent feature of the hujra, which also hosts jirgas where local elders issue decisions that must be followed by every individual and tribe in its letter and spirit,” he said.
“Traditional archery, which has been losing its ancient charm over time, is also a major feature of these gatherings, and people turn up enthusiastically to witness such competitions,” said Rubnawaz, another resident.
