PESHAWAR: The wife of a young man who went missing in Libya has appealed to the prime minister and the military leadership to intervene immediately for the safe recovery of her husband.

Sania Umar, wife of 25-year-old Umar Khan from Peshawar, said her husband has been missing for over six months after allegedly being trafficked to Libya by agents who promised him a safe route to Europe and a better future.

She said the family has been living in constant fear and uncertainty, with no confirmed information about his whereabouts.According to the family, Umar Khan left Pakistan after paying around Rs3.5 million to an agent.

He last contacted his family on December 18 last year, informing them that dozens of young men from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other regions were also with him in Libya. All communication has ceased since then.

Sania Umar said her husband was trapped in a dangerous situation and pleaded for all possible diplomatic and security channels to be activated to trace him.She urged the authorities to treat the case as urgent, saying her children ask about their father every day and she has no answers for them.

Umar Khan’s travel record shows a complex route through Sri Lanka, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and finally Libya, where he arrived in September 2025. He had previously worked at a poultry farm and is the father of two daughters.

Family members said they had submitted complaints through official portals and contacted relevant ministries. They were later informed that the case had been forwarded to the Libyan authorities, but no concrete update has been received so far.

Sources indicated that human trafficking networks are active in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Dir, Bajaur and Kurram, allegedly coordinating with facilitators in Libya.
