MINGORA: Speakers on Friday paid rich tributes to former Wali-e-Swat, Miangul Abdul Haq Jahanzeb, for his contributions to education, governance, infrastructure development, and public welfare in the former princely state of Swat.

They were speaking at a ceremony in the Wadudia Hall in Saidu Sharif to mark the 118th birth anniversary of the former ruler of the princely state.

The ceremony was organised by the Swat Relief Initiative (SRI), which also conferred the prestigious “Wali-e-Swat Awards” on outstanding students and teachers in recognition of their excellence and contributions to the field of education.

The event was attended by SRI Chairperson and granddaughter of the late ruler, Zeb-un-Nisa Jilani, Deputy Commissioner, Shangla, Abdullah Shah, Additional Deputy Commissioner Naimatullah Khan, Miangul Shahryar Amirzeb, Miangul Amirzeb Shahryar, Khpal Kor Foundation representative Muhammad Ali, teachers, students, and a large number of social and political figures.

Speakers highlighted the life and legacy of Miangul Jahanzeb, describing him as a visionary leader whose commitment to education, justice, and development transformed Swat into a model state.

They recalled that under his rule, schools and colleges were established in remote areas, healthcare facilities were provided free of cost, and an efficient administrative system ensured the timely delivery of justice.

Addressing the gathering, Zeb-un-Nisa Jilani said that the life and achievements of Wali-e-Swat continue to serve as a guiding light for future generations. “Wali-e-Swat devoted his life to the welfare and prosperity of the people of Swat. His contributions remain unmatched, and his vision continues to inspire us,” she said.

Jilani added that her desire to serve the people of the region led to the establishment of the Swat Relief Initiative, which has been working in the fields of education, healthcare, livelihood support, and disaster response.

“We have tried to carry forward his legacy by creating opportunities for education and employment, improving healthcare access, and supporting communities affected by natural disasters. We remain committed to continuing these efforts in the future,” she remarked. Speaking on the occasion, Miangul Shahryar Amirzeb said that Wali-e-Swat had established an exemplary system of governance that earned recognition beyond the region.

“He transformed Swat into a model state where the rule of law prevailed, education was accessible, healthcare was free, and development reached even the most remote areas,” he added. At the end, the organisers distributed Wali-e-Swat Awards and cash prizes among high-performing students.
