PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has yet to initiate formal action on allegations of irregular appointments at Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC), weeks after the Young Doctors Association (YDA) submitted documentary evidence to provincial authorities, despite assurances that the matter would be processed through legal channels.

Health Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman, when approached for comment on the delay, stated that the matter would be addressed in due course, saying, “It will be decided next week.” The controversy surfaced after the YDA held a press conference on May 19 at the Peshawar Press Club, where its representatives produced what they described as documentary evidence of alleged irregularities in senior administrative appointments at HMC, which was once considered a key medical teaching institution in the province.

Following the press conference, the Chief Minister’s Office took notice of the matter. A written communication issued by the chief minister’s private secretary directed YDA representatives to appear before Health Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman on May 25 at 11 a.m. to formally submit the evidence.

The letter also indicated that the matter would be taken up through the appropriate administrative channels. On May 25, YDA representatives met the health minister in the presence of senior Health Department officials and formally submitted the dossier.

According to participants in the meeting, the health minister assured them that the case would be forwarded to the Law Department for legal opinion before further proceedings. However, even after several weeks, the case has not been formally referred to the Law Department, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The Health Department has also not issued any official update on the progress of the file. When contacted, Law Minister Aftab Alam Khan stated that the matter had not yet been referred to his department. “We have yet to receive it,” he said.
