LAHORE : The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) imposed fines amounting to Rs170,000 on four food outlets and inspected 73,200 litres of milk during a major crackdown at major entry points and food locations in Lahore.
PFA DG M Asim Javaid told media on Saturday that enforcement teams checked 49 milk supplier vehicles entering the city, ensuring strict monitoring to curb adulteration and safeguard public health.
During inspections, serious violations were uncovered, including the storage of food items in fungus-infected and foul-smelling freezers, presence of contaminated water on broken floors, and poor hygiene conditions at food points.
The teams also found that food was being prepared using substandard and repeatedly used cooking oil, while mandatory records regarding oil usage and replacement were missing.
The DG emphasised that medical certificates and food safety training are mandatory for all food handlers.
Food business operators were directed to strictly comply with regulations to ensure the provision of safe and nutritious food.
The crackdown was carried out under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure an adulteration-free Punjab.
Reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy on food quality, the DG PFA said strict action against violators would continue. Citizens have been urged to report complaints on the PFA helpline 1223.
