LAHORE : Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif is taking fundamental steps for the improvement of the health sector. For the first time in history, any government has taken so many steps for the welfare of patients across the province.
He shared these thoughts while addressing a meeting of the Steering/Advisory Committee for Cardiovascular Diseases Punjab at the Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education on Saturday.
In the meeting, the establishment of the Institute of Cardiology Gujranwala, medical equipment and administrative matters were reviewed in detail.
Secretary of the Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Azmat Mahmood attended the meeting and gave a briefing on the progress. Special Secretary Operations Nabila Irfan, Special Secretary Development Ahmed Kamal Maan, Additional Secretary Technical Dr Hafiz M Waseem and IDAP officers were present.
University of Child Health Sciences (UCHS) VC Prof Masood Sadiq, Prof Asim Javed from Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology, Shahzad Leghari from IDEP and other officials participated through video link.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman said that a state-of-the-art Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology is being built in Gujranwala at a cost of Rs16 billion. “We are going to provide the best cardiac facilities to the millions of population of Gujranwala division. We are also trying to improve the Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology”.
He said this institution will prove to be a milestone in providing modern and quality treatment for heart diseases to the people. Bringing modern medical facilities to the doorsteps of the people is the top priority.
Secretary Specialised Health Azmat Mahmood Khan gave a detailed briefing to the meeting on the progress of the project, available resources and future goals.
Chairman Punjab CM Advisory Committee on Cardiology Dr Farqad Alamgir said that CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz wanted to provide the best cardiac facilities to the people. According to the vision of the CM Punjab, efforts are being made to provide the best cardiac facilities to patients suffering from heart diseases across the province.
Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Azmat Mahmood said that the institution will be provided with modern medical equipment, appointment of expert doctors and patient-friendly facilities. Cooperation is indispensable to make the health system effective and Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology will become a practical example of this cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, the commitment was reiterated that Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology will be developed on modern lines. The people of Gujranwala and surrounding areas will not have to go to big cities for treatment of heart diseases.
