LAHORE:A donation of Rs35 million by a Pakistan-origin family based in the United States has significantly upgraded the Ophthalmology Department of Lahore General Hospital (LGH).
Under this initiative, two modern laser machines have been installed and made fully operational, enabling advanced treatment for glaucoma and retinal diseases and bringing international-standard eye care facilities within reach of patients.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Principal Amir-ud-Din Medical College Prof Dr Farooq Afzal stated that philanthropic contributions are opening new avenues for improvement in the healthcare sector. He appreciated the continued commitment of overseas Pakistanis, noting that such initiatives not only enhance the quality of medical services but also strengthen public trust in healthcare institutions.
Philanthropist Ziauddin Butt joined the ceremony via video link from the United States and interacted with hospital administration and doctors. Head of the Ophthalmology Department Prof Dr Tayyaba Gul Malik briefed the participants that LGH has now become the first public sector institution to offer advanced laser treatment for glaucoma.She said nearly 20 types of glaucoma can now be treated more effectively. Prof Dr Farooq Afzal paid tribute to the donor family, emphasising that vision is a priceless blessing and its preservation requires access to modern medical facilities.
