PESHAWAR: Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba chief Sahibzada Waseem Haider on Wednesday urged the government to withdraw the decision of introducing online classes as it would further weaken the country’s poor education system.

In a statement Waseem Haider rejected the decision and said that the country was already facing a severe educational crisis and that shifting to online education would worsen the situation.

He said that millions of students across the country were not having access to essential resources such as internet connectivity, electricity and digital devices and in such a situation online education would certainly prove an ineffective alternative.

He said that the government never faced shortage of funds for expensive projects, lavish expenditures and unnecessary procurements but when it came to education energy shortages and economic constraints are presented as excuses.

“Education is the fundamental right of all the citizens and it is the primary responsibility of the state to ensure provision of quality education facilities to all the citizens,” he went on to add.He argued that closing educational institutions is not a solution and would instead intensify the ongoing crisis in the education sector.
