Rawalpindi: The journalist community has strongly resented the decision of Pakistan Railways to reduce the fare concession on their cards from 80 per cent to 50 per cent.According to the details former Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed had launched the journalists’ concession card with 80pc concession in fare.
The facility was being availed by majority of the journalists who frequently travel to perform their duties and meet their parents and family members in other parts of the country. However this year, the Railways’ administration has quietly changed the discount from 80pc to 50pc and also restricted the journalists that they can only travel 10 times in a year on the prescribed concession card. Kamran Anwar, a senior journalist, went to buy the ticket for Lahore a couple of days ago, the booking officer informed him that now the concession is 50pc instead of 80pc.The journalists of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have asked Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi to restore the 80 percent concession for the journalist community.
