Five sentenced in murder, attempted murder case

Rawalpindi:An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) here has convicted five individuals involved in the murder and attempted murder of several people in Taxila, sentencing them to a cumulative 53 years in prison and imposing fines totaling Rs1.2 million.

The case, registered at Taxila Police Station on April 17, 2023, stemmed from a violent attack on worshippers leaving a mosque after Maghrib prayers, resulting in the death of one Ijaz and injuring several others. The accused, armed with firearms and sticks, had launched the assault allegedly led by Kamran, who remains at large.

The court, in its verdict, awarded Muhammad Amjad 28 years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs650,000 for attempted murder. Ghulam Mustafa and Ishtiaq Ahmed received six-year sentences and fines of Rs150,000 each, while Muhammad Qurban was handed an eight-year term and a fine of Rs150,000. Gibran was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Rs150,000. Additionally, the court directed the convicts to pay compensation to the victims, including Rs5.5 million as daman and one-third of the diyat amount.
