Islamabad:Marking the enduring bond between Japan and Pakistan, an art exhibition exploring shared artistic and cultural narratives opened at the National Art Gallery here on Wednesday.
Titled ‘Japan in Art’ and inaugurated by Ambassador of Japan Akamatsu Shuichi, alongside PNCA director general Ayoub Jamali and renowned artist Jamal Shah, the exhibition drew a vibrant audience of young artists, art enthusiasts and dignitaries.
From delicate brushwork and coloured pencil to the refined tradition of woodblock printing, the collection blended artistic imagination with cultural interpretation. Ambassador Akamatsu praised the exceptional creativity and skill of the participating artists, noting their thoughtful portrayal of Japanese culture.
He described the exhibition as a reflection of the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Japan, one rooted not only in diplomacy but also in cultural exchange and people-to-people connections.
The envoy also conferred the Ambassador’s Commendation for 2026 upon Jamal Shah, President of PJCA Islamabad, in recognition of his pivotal role in strengthening Japan-Pakistan cultural ties.
Ambassador Akamatsu highlighted Shah’s role as director of the Pakistan Pavilion at Expo 2005 Aichi, his support for cultural initiatives during his tenure as Minister for Culture and his involvement in events such as the Emperor’s Birthday Reception and the Japan Foundation’s travelling exhibition ‘Yakishime’.
