ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday slammed the continued denial of permission for ex-PM and PTI founder Imran Khan to meet his sisters, terming it a blatant abuse of fundamental human and constitutional rights, and urging the judiciary to enforce its orders to restore its fast-eroding credibility.
In a statement issued by the PTI Central Media Department, the party condemned the incumbent regime’s actions, stating that they not only violate the law but also further undermine the credibility of the justice system. The PTI highlighted that Imran Khan has been held in prolonged solitary confinement, which constitutes a clear breach of internationally recognized human rights standards, including the United Nations Mandela Rules. According to these principles, the extended solitary confinement amounts to physical and psychological torture.
The statement expressed grave concern over the party leader’s deteriorating health, emphasizing the urgent need for a comprehensive medical examination, access to his personal physicians, and immediate provision of proper medical treatment. It regretted that despite repeated attempts, his family continues to be denied visitation, causing distress and reflecting an inhumane and unjust approach.
The PTI asserted that denying a former prime minister access to his family, legal counsel, and party leadership constitutes a grave injustice and a blatant violation of due process one that cannot be defended under any legal or moral framework. It demanded that Imran Khan be immediately granted access to his family, legal counsel, and political leadership; be removed from solitary confinement; be provided unhindered access to his personal physicians; and be shifted without delay to the Shifa International Hospital for essential medical treatment.
The statement emphasized that the party and the nation will not tolerate such inhumane conduct and blatant disregard for the law and Constitution. It affirmed their unwavering resolve to continue the struggle not only to secure the release of the nation’s beloved leader from unlawful imprisonment but also bring an end to the imposed regime and establish a system rooted in justice, fairness, constitutional supremacy, judicial independence, freedom of speech, and protection of all citizens’ rights.
