Man sentenced to death in double murder case

PESHAWAR: Additional District and Sessions Judge, Balakot, Asim Riaz, has sentenced a man to death on two counts and imposed a fine of Rs600,000 after convicting him in a double murder case involving a woman and her son.

According to the verdict, the accused, Sadaqat, was found guilty under Sections 302/109 of the Pakistan Penal Code and 15-AA in connection with FIR No. 165 dated June 17, 2023, registered at Kaghan Police Station.

The court ruled that Sadaqat was responsible for the killing of Lail-un- Nisa and her son, Shoaib Rabbani. He was awarded death sentences on two counts under Section 302(b) of the Pakistan Penal Code, one for each victim.

However, the execution of the death sentences will remain suspended until confirmation by the Peshawar High Court under Section 374 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. A murder reference will be prepared and sent to the high court for confirmation.The court further ordered the convict to pay Rs600,000 in compensation to the legal heirs of each deceased under Section 544-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
