SWABI: Three alleged proclaimed offenders were killed in an exchange of fire with police in the Maneri Hills area here on Wednesday, police officials said.
They said that the law enforcers received intelligence indicating that five wanted suspects were present in the area and were allegedly planning criminal activities. Acting on the information, a heavy police contingent was dispatched to the site.
The officials said the suspects opened fire on the police party and hurled a hand grenade upon seeing the advancing force. The police, they said, retaliated and cordoned off the
area, leading to a gun battle that continued for some time.
After the firing subsided, police launched a search operation and found three suspects dead at the scene. The deceased were identified as Amir, and Zohaib, sons of Sher Zameen, both residents of Gudwadabad, and Umar Syed, alias Janey, a resident of Maneri in Swabi district.
Police officials said they recovered a hand grenade, three Kalashnikov rifles and a large quantity of ammunition from the site.According to police records, Amir was wanted in 15 criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, extortion, forgery and fraud.
