PESHAWAR: A local court on Wednesday acquitted two men accused of murdering a police sub-inspector and mutilating his body for lack of sufficient evidence.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Imtiazi Ali ordered the acquittal of the two accused, who had been charged with the murder of Sub-Inspector Safdar Khan and the subsequent mutilation of his body. The defence was represented by advocate Shabbir Hussain Gigyani.
According to the prosecution, Sub-Inspector Safdar was killed on November 8, 2025 in the jurisdiction of Michini Gate Police Station in Peshawar. Besides being shot dead, the victim’s nose, ears and thumb were allegedly severed after the killing.
Following the incident, the victim’s brother, Haider Khan, lodged a first information report (FIR) accusing another police officer, Sub-Inspector Sanaullah, and Jawad of involvement in the murder.
The prosecution maintained that the killing stemmed from a dispute involving women between the victim and the accused. It further claimed that the murder weapon had been recovered from accused Sanaullah and that a forensic examination had produced positive results.
The prosecution also relied on the statement of a barber, who had allegedly recorded a confessional statement before a magistrate. After examining the evidence in detail, the court held that the alleged recovery of the weapon had not been proven in accordance with legal requirements and that the recovery evidence was unreliable.
The court also observed that the person whose confession formed a key part of the prosecution’s case had allegedly been kept in illegal custody for nine days, thereby undermining the legal credibility and evidentiary value of the statement.Upon completion of arguments from both sides, the court acquitted the accused for lack of evidence and ordered their release.
