LAHORE:The Divisional Commercial Officer (DCO) Railways, Abdullah Arshad conducted a sudden raid on the Allama Iqbal Express operating from Sialkot to Karachi via Lahore.
During the operation, a total of 191 ticketless passengers were charged fares amounting to Rs187,450, along with fines of Rs23,780. In total, Rs211,230 was recovered from ticketless passengers, which has been deposited into the national exchequer.
The operation was carried out by the team that included Commercial Inspector Faisal Nazir, Claim Inspector Maqsoom Hussain, and a special ticket-checking squad accompanying the DCO Railways.In addition, DCO Railways inspected cleanliness, lighting, fans, and other passenger facilities on both up and down Allama Iqbal Express trains.
More than Rs900,000 collected in excess fares have been returned to passengers, says spokesperson for the National Highways and Motorway Police.A special campaign against overcharging and overloading has been underway since March 15 on the directives of IG Motorway Police Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry.
Action taken against 908 vehicles for overloading and 382 passenger vehicles for overcharging.During the campaign, 767 public service vehicles were fined for not having route permits, while 401 vehicles were ticketted for expired route permits.
Around 594 public service vehicles were fined for lacking fitness certificates, while 351 vehicles were ticketted for expired fitness certificates. Citizens can lodge complaints via helpline 130 or through social media handle @NHMP.
More than 20,000 vehicles have been fined so far for violating revised speed limits introduced for fuel efficiency. Motorway Police officers are providing awareness regarding new speed limits at toll plazas across the country.
