Islamabad:Inspector General of the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP), Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry, presided over a high-level monthly Regional Conference to evaluate nationwide performance and finalize security and traffic strategies for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
The meeting, which included Additional and Deputy inspector generals from across the country, focused on operational efficiency, road safety, and the enforcement of strict administrative protocols. During the session, IG Chaudhry issued a series of directives aimed at streamlining travel during the holiday period.
He specifically ordered a crackdown on public service vehicles (PSVs), mandating zero tolerance for overcharging, overloading, and the illegal transportation of passengers in luggage compartments. To ensure commuter safety, field officers were instructed to strictly verify the fitness certificates and route permits of all commercial vehicles and to maintain a heightened presence at identified accident-prone "black spots."
Addressing broader administrative concerns, the IG emphasised the need for austerity and fuel conservation in response to the current global and regional economic climate. He also underscored that there would be no compromise on moving violations, such as over-speeding and reckless driving, and called for the strengthening of motorway patrolling standards to provide more effective enforcement and timely assistance to motorists.
