LAHORE:Thunderstormand rain on Sunday turned the weather pleasant in the provincial capital while Met office predicted similar weather conditions during the next 24 hours.

Rains and wind caused widespread power outages in various areas of city. The affected areas included Taj Bagh Housing Scheme, Walled City, Samanabad, Iqbal Town, Johar Town, Ichhra, Mozang Chungi, Gulberg and as power supply to over 100 feeders disconnected.

The outages caused severe inconvenience to the general public on weekly holiday in Shad Bagh, Faisal Town, Green Town, Awan Town, Shahdara, Baghbanpura, Nishtar Colony, and DHA also.

According to power utility, around 56 feeders tripped.The Lesco spokesperson claimed field staff has been put on high alert and efforts are under way to restore power supply.The electricity demand in the afternoon was 2318 MW, allocation stood at 2350 MW, and withdrawal was 2095 MW, with no shortage reported.

Lesco CEO Engineer Ramzan Butt appealed to consumers to cooperate with the authorities, especially during bad weather. Residents are advised to inform Lesco in case of power suspension and wait for the staff to arrive. In case of an emergency, people can contact their local complaint office or dial 118.

The rain started early morning and continued in spans until evening. The scattered thunder-showers, hailstorm and the gentle breeze brought down the rising temperatures around 20°C and citizens felt cooler weather with potential for rain. The average AQI of the city came down further to around 60, which fell in the category of moderate while the PM2.5 concentration was 3.5 times the World Health Organisation annual PM2.5 guideline value.

Met officials said a westerly wave was affecting western and upper parts of the country and likely to persist in upper parts. They predicted that dry weather was expected in most parts of the country. However, partly cloudy weather with light rain-wind/thunderstorm was expected at a few places in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
