Varsities’ role in promotion of languages stressed

LAHORE: A seminar titled ‘The Role of Universities in Linguistics in a Changing Era’ was organised at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) here on Tuesday.

The seminar was presided over by UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Munir while the keynote address was delivered by Principal Oriental College, University of the Punjab, Prof Dr Nabila Rahman. Prof DrShahidMuniremphasised that in the era of modern digital technology and artificial intelligence, linguistics must be aligned with emerging trends.

According to him, national and regional languages can be effectively preserved and promoted by integrating them with digital tools, software, and research platforms.

He stressed that universities must play a leading role in the promotion, research, and digitalisation of languages. Prof Dr Umar Chaudhry said that languages never die; rather, they are weakened by societal negligence.
