JAMRUD: A protest rally was staged here on Friday outside the office of the District Police Officer (DPO) against the murder of Awami National Party (ANP) leader Zahir Khan and the failure to arrest his killers.
A large number of party leaders, workers, and supporters from different political parties participated in the protest. Demonstrators carried banners and placards demanding the immediate arrest of the killers and justice for the slain leader.
Speaking on the occasion, ANP District President Abdul Raziq said the sit-in would continue until the government guarantees the arrest of Zahir Khan’s killers. He said party representatives had met the DPO and other administrative officials several times and had even waited for more than a week to give authorities time to apprehend the suspects.
According to him, despite being given ample time and cooperation, the police failed to fulfill their promise. He also alleged that delays and legal complications were created during the registration of the first information report.
“We provided all necessary details and gave the authorities two weeks to arrest the culprits, but so far neither the DPO nor the station house officer has taken action,” he said. The ANP leader warned that if the killers of Zahir Khan were not arrested soon, the party would adopt every legal and protest option available.
He criticized the local administration, including the DPO, for failing to maintain law and order in the area, claiming that incidents of killings and clashes continue on a daily basis.Leaders from several political parties also addressed the rally. They included Pakistan People’s Party President Sher Shah Afridi, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Maulana Syed Kabir, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Zahir Shah Afridi, Malik Sher Bahadur Qambarkhel, ANP’s Shirin Afridi, Muhammad Siddique Chiragh, Wahid Afridi, and Subhan Afridi.
