SHANGLA: One woman was killed and six others injured when a dilapidated wall of a building collapsed at a Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) payment centre in the Koz Kana area of Kana tehsil in Shangla district on Thursday.

Eyewitnesses said the incident took place while financial assistance was being distributed among the eligible women under the BISP. A large number of women had gathered at the centre to receive their payments, they said, adding many women were standing in the courtyard and along the wall of the building when the old and weakened wall suddenly collapsed. Several women were trapped under the debris, causing panic and chaos at the scene.

Local residents immediately started rescue efforts on a self-help basis and informed Rescue 1122. The rescue teams and ambulances soon arrived at the site and, with the help of local people, pulled the injured women from the rubble and provided first aid.
