LAHORE:Punjab police, on the directions of IG Punjab Abdul Kareem, made strict security arrangements across the province on the occasion of Youm-e-Ali (RA).
In view of the western border situation, IG Punjab issued instructions to all field formations to remain on high alert and enhance security for mourning processions and gatherings. IG Punjab said that more than 30,000 police officers and personnel were deployed for the security of mourning processions and gatherings across the province, including Lahore.
Police spokesperson said that 20,000 officers and personnel performed duties for the security of 217 mourning processions, while more than 10,000 officers and personnel performed duties for the security of 994 gatherings across the province.
In the provincial capital Lahore, more than 8,000 officers and personnel were deployed for the security of mourning processions and gatherings. Spokesperson further said that lady police personnel were deployed for the security checking of female mourners, while plain-clothes commandos and snipers on rooftops along the routes were also deployed during mourning processions.
Across Punjab, including Lahore, 32 mourning processions of Category-A were taken out while 67 gatherings were held. For checking the participants of gatherings and mourning processions, 2,029 metal detectors and 297 walk-through gates were used. Continuous monitoring of all activities was carried out from the Central Police Office and district Control and Monitoring Rooms, while monitoring of mourning processions and gatherings was also ensured with the help of cameras of the Safe Cities Authority and district administration. Complete checking of the participants of mourning processions and gatherings was ensured.
Moreover, special arrangements were made across the province to maintain the flow of traffic through alternate routes. All field formations including Dolphin Squad, PRU, Special Branch and CTD adopted a joint strategy for security arrangements, while RPOs, CPOs and DPOs themselves monitored the security arrangements of mourning processions and gatherings and remained present in the field.
