The Government of Sindh on Tuesday announced a comprehensive and decisive initiative aimed at transforming the lives of people residing in the Kutcha (riverine) areas and placing these regions on the path of sustainable social and economic development.

The announcement came during a meeting jointly chaired by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar and Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Jam Khan Shoro. During the meeting, the commissioner and DIG of Sukkur and Larkana presented detailed proposals and recommendations regarding development projects in the Kutcha areas. A special committee would thoroughly review these proposals before forwarding them to the chief minister for final approval.

The committee was constituted in light of decisions taken during a law and order meeting chaired by the Chief Minister in September 2025. Its members included the Inspector General of Sindh, representatives of Rangers, the Chairman Planning and Development, and secretaries of relevant departments. Departments including Education, Health, Livestock, Public Health Engineering, Local Government, and Works & Services would play a central role in executing the development strategy for the riverine belt.

Lanjar stated that restoration of peace, rehabilitation, and development of the Kutcha areas was now the government’s top priority. “Improving education, healthcare, and infrastructure to enhance the quality of life of the people is our firm commitment,” he said, directing authorities to ensure that road infrastructure was designed to withstand natural disasters and environmental challenges.

He further announced that in the first phase, priority would be given to road and police infrastructure to ensure that development benefits reach citizens in a secure and stable environment. Relevant authorities had been directed to present comprehensive and practical recommendations for the initial phase at the earliest.

Emphasising implementation over rhetoric, Lanjar said, “The time has come to move beyond announcements and fulfill the promises made to the people of the Kutcha areas. The Government of Sindh is taking the first solid step toward honoring its commitments.”

Shoro said modern and durable infrastructure would be constructed in line with the unique geography and ground realities of the riverine regions. “We are confident that through integrated planning, Kutcha areas will be provided with high-quality and sustainable infrastructure, laying the foundation for progress for future generations,” he added.
