Efforts to restore the Pakistan-Afghanistan ceasefire featured prominently in a telephone call between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday, with the Turkish leader pledging Ankara’s support in re-establishing the truce.

According to a statement posted by the Turkish Presidency on X, President Erdogan condemned recent terror attacks in Pakistan and reaffirmed that Turkiye would continue to stand by Islamabad in its fight against terrorism.

He also said Turkiye would contribute to reviving the ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which had previously been reached through Ankara’s diplomatic initiatives.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments.

President Erdogan further stressed the importance of renewed diplomacy in the region, particularly in light of tensions stemming from attacks against Iran, and said Turkiye was ready to provide all possible support to promote stability.
