Schools closed in Landikotal amid Pak-Afghan tensions

LANDIKOTAL: Twelve government schools located in the border areas of Landikotal tehsil were closed for an indefinite period due to the ongoing tensions at the Pak-Afghan Torkham border.

According to a notification issued by the District Education Office Khyber, the decision was taken in view of the prevailing security situation following heightened tensions and alleged provocation from the Afghan side.

The closure aimed to ensure the safety of students and teaching staff in sensitive border localities in Landikotal. The schools that were ordered to close down until further notice included Government Primary School (GPS) Paseedkhel, GPS Char Bagh, Government High School (GHS) Kharghali, GPS Kharghali, GPS Bacha Maina, GPS Gulab Kalay, GPS Sand Gharra, GPS Shin Pukh No. 2, GMS Shin Pukh, GPS Shin Pukh No. 1 and Government Middle School Wali Mohammad Kor in Loey Shalman.

Officials said the steps were taken as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident.β€œThe decision has been made in the context of the current security situation to protect students and teachers,” an Education Department official said, adding that further announcements about the resumption of academic activities would be made after reviewing the situation.

It is pertinent to mention that recent escalation in the border areas has created concern among residents, while the administration continued to implement safety measures to maintain law and order.
