PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced summer vacations for all public and private educational institutions across the province, according to an official notification issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department (E&SED).
The notification issued on Tuesday said primary schools located in summer-zone areas will remain closed from June 1 to August 31, 2026, while middle, high, and higher secondary schools will observe vacations from June 15 to August 16, 2026.
For schools situated in winter-zone areas, summer vacations will be observed from July 1 to July 31, 2026.The notification stated that special summer camps would continue during June 2026 in all summer-zone schools of both public and private sectors to help students improve their academic competencies.
According to the schedule, classes for primary and middle students will be conducted from 7:00 am to 9:00 am from Monday to Thursday. High and higher secondary classes will continue till 9:40am.
The department has also outlined subject-wise learning activities for different categories of students. Primary-level students will study English, General Science/General Knowledge, Mathematics, and Urdu, while middle-class students will focus on English, Mathematics, General Science, and Urdu.
For high schools, science and IT group students will attend sessions in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English, whereas humanities students will study General Science, Mathematics, English, and Urdu.
Similarly, higher secondary science students will receive instruction in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/IT/Mathematics, and English, while arts and humanities students will study English, Statistics, Mathematics, and Economics.
The notification further clarified that the mentioned subjects are indicative only, and school heads have been authorized to adjust subjects and duration according to students’ competency levels. However, the total duration of daily engagement cannot exceed 10:00am in any case.
The notification also stated that Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) students would be exempted from summer camp attendance on the days of their practical examinations conducted by the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education.
