Officials inspect cattle markets to review steps against Congo virus

MANSEHRA: The additional deputy commissioner and assistant commissioners on Tuesday visited the cattle markets and checked measures being taken to contain Congo virus, prices and services being provided to sellers and buyers.

“I visited the cattle markets set up for the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals and reviewed the measures being taken to contain the outbreak of the Congo virus and ensure cleanliness and other services for buyers and sellers,” Assad Mehmood Lodhi, the additional deputy commissioner (Relief and Human Rights), told reporters during his visit to the cattle market at Pano Interchange here on Tuesday.

Lodhi said that during the visit, he checked cleanliness, security, traffic management, and other arrangements, and directed the relevant officials to strictly follow the standard operating procedures finalised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for cattle markets on the eve of Eidul Azha.

Assistant Commissioner, Balakot, Hasrat Khan also visited the cattle markets in Garhi Habibullah as the district administration imposed a complete ban on the public places.“I have visited to ensure cleanliness and the supply of potable water for animals brought to the markets for sale,” he added.

The AC said that the Tehsil administration was striving hard to provide better services to cattle sellers and buyers coming from within the district and other parts of the country.The Livestock Department has started anti-tick spraying of animals at cattle markets established in different parts of the district.

Teams deployed at cattle markets in Mansehra, Pano Dehri, Garhi Habibullah, Shinkiari and other areas carried out the spraying campaign.According to the Livestock Department, teams have also been deployed near various entrance points into the district at the Karakoram Highway, where animals were being sprayed to protect them against the Congo virus on Eidul Azha days.
