MANSEHRA: The alliance of local governments chairmen on Saturday warned to stage a sit-in outside the offices of the deputy commissioner and assistant directors of Local governments if the two-month salary of the sanitation staff and drivers was not paid without any further delay.

“The government has not released the salaries of sanitation staff and tri-wheeler drivers appointed for cleanliness at 194 village councils across the district and the rest of the Hazara division, even in the month of Ramazan,” Basharat Ali Swati, the alliance’s general secretary, told reporters here.

Flanked by chairmen of village councils from different parts of the district, he said that sanitation workers and drivers had left their jobs as the government had not paid them their salaries of January and February.

“If salaries are not released immediately and garbage collection does not resume, epidemics may spread in rural parts of the district,” Swati said.
