PESHAWAR: The police foiled a number of terrorist attacks on the force in the provincial capital and different districts of the province, officials said on Saturday.
The police across the province have been put on high alert following the recent attacks and tension on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Hand-grenades were hurled and fire was opened on police buildings in Peshawar, Khyber and Bannu in the wee hours that were retaliated by the alert cops.
“A hand-grenade was hurled at Badaber Police Station from Masho Gagar Road in Peshawar. A head constable Faisal, who was working at the office was wounded,” said an official.
A civilian was injured in another hand-grenade attack on police post Sra Khawra within the limits of Matani Police Station.
An official said the attackers managed to escape in both the incidents after police retaliated.
Capital City Police Officer Mian Saeed Ahmad visited the Badaber and Matani police stations and lauded the cops for being alert.
The CCPO gave away cash rewards to the cops deployed at the remote posts. The officers were directed to provide more technology and facilities to these posts to foil such attacks in future.
In Bannu, miscreants attacked the police post Kangar located within the limits of the Mundan Police Station from different directions in the early hours. Sniper rifles were used in the attack. Another police post in Bannu in the limits of Domail Police Station was also attacked.
“Police retaliated and after an exchange of fire that lasted for about 15 minutes, the terrorists managed to flee,” said the official.
In Khyber, terrorists hurled a hand-grenade at the Takya police post in Bara. The police retaliated and the attackers managed their escape.
A spokesman for the KP Police said that Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed paid tribute to cops for showing bravery on the frontlines.
In his message, the IGP said that the courage and efficiency with which the personnel of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police gave a befitting reply to these cowardly attacks was a matter of pride. The IGP said the prompt response to the attacks showed that the police force was ready to deal with any eventuality.
