CHITRAL: The office-bearers of government contractors’ association have accused a group of vested-interest contractors of attempting to delay uplift work by seeking the cancellation of tenders awarded earlier this month.

In a joint statement issued on Saturday, the association’s general secretary Lala Akbar, finance secretary Subhanuddin and vice president Shafiqur Rehman said that certain contractors had submitted fabricated applications to the Secretary of the Irrigation Department in Peshawar to have the tenders held on February 9 cancelled.

They maintained that the tenders were awarded in accordance with the prescribed rules and regulations and completed within the stipulated time. The association warned that any delay in initiating work could lead to a rise in the water level of the Chitral River, posing serious risks to construction activities.
